Digital Marketing For a Cheerleading Team

Business Overview

Smart Cheer are a local Cheerleading team based in Bognor Regis. Scorpio Digital have been helping them to build an online presence since January 2017. Since we began implementing marketing strategies and built their website, they have tripled the size of their program, allowing them to take four competitive teams all over the UK with children as young as five, all the way up to adults ages 26.

She brings new and innovative ideas to the team in order to expand our program. I would highly recommend Scorpio Digital to any business.”

Head Coach and Owner, Smart Cheer

Website Design and Development

As a new Cheerleading team, Smart Cheer needed a website designed in order to market to a new audience and gain new cheerleaders. It was important to showcase each team on the website, along with the coaches, so visitors could get to know the team prior to joining.

Ecommerce Store

Smart Cheer have a merchandise and clothing range available for order. They wanted to be able to sell these items online so that cheerleaders and parents didn’t have to wait to come to the gym to place an order. Having the ecommerce store has meant that customers have been able to order from Smart Cheer in the comfort of their own home. Having the online store has also streamlined their ordering process as they can manage all the orders through the back end of the website, rather than manually taking orders in person and uploading them to the system.

On-Page SEO and Original Content

To ensure the website reaches the correct audience, we wrote all the content on the website, as well as completing SEO work on every page. By doing so, we have increased the strength of Smart Cheer’s online presence, meaning they are receiving more leads via online contact forms.

Social Media Account Setup and Management

As Smart Cheer’s target audience is children, young adults and parents, social media is the perfect place to reach new team members. As this is a visual sport, it provides lots of perfect social media opportunities in a variety of different media.

Logo Design

in the cheerleading industry, logos need to be big and bold. They usually end up being used on the uniform and training kits. Therefore, it is important that you can see the logo from a distance. Ben wanted the colour scheme to be black, white and blue. We used a font which is in-keeping with the cheerleading standard, against a dark background to really make it pop.

The use of strong geometric shapes builds up layers which can then be altered on the uniform with glitter and diamanté effects. The logo has proven to be effective and stands out well on the uniform in their competitions.

Flyers and Posters

Each year Smart Cheer host an event called ‘tryouts’. This is where they recruit new cheerleaders in their program and is one of the most important events of the year. It is important that this event is correctly and effectively marketed with every opportunity possible.

Each year we design the flyers and posters for this event for the children to hand out at school. The faces on this example have been blurred out to protect their identities.

Features

Along with the basic information, we use eye-catching imagery to engage the reader with the material and entice them to read on. This particular example is to recruit for the younger team. An image of cheerleaders smiling, laughing and piggy-backing each other has been used to show the recipient of the flyer the close bond within the team. The use of a cheerleader doing the splits has also been incorporated to show some of the flexible skills the potential cheerleader could learn.

Text is really important in this poster as highlighting the words FREE instantly draws attention. (This is probably the first word you read in this section of text.)

Branding

Branding is always important in any form of marketing, especially printed. Hence why the brand guidelines have been maintained throughout. The use of the two fonts along with the colour scheme is consistent with their uniform and their website. This is vital when it comes to brand awareness and building a reputation as people begin to recognise the colours and the fonts.
